Preparation of the Detailed Execution Design (PZI) for the Pekel Tunnel on the Second Track of the Maribor – Šentilj Railway Line

Investment value: approx. € 25 million

Our role: Design engineer

Year of preparation of technical documentation: 2018 - 2020

The Pekel tunnel, approximately 1,550 m long, is part of the new double-track rail of the Maribor – Šentilj railway connection and will be built north of Maribor and east of the existing rail, which currently passes through the Počehova railway tunnel. The tunnel clearance will allow for traffic on a double-track rail, while the system comprises a tunnel and a rescue tunnel connecting the tunnel to the surface approximately in the middle, as well as a water reservoir for fire water supply. The northern portal is planned just before the railway crosses the existing motorway connection towards the Dragučova junction. As part of the design of the PZI design documentation, we also worked with partners to design the secondary lining, the rescue tunnel with portal construction and the northern portal of the Pekel tunnel in the BIM environment. The PZI documentation for the Tunnel was the first project that uses the BIM for railway infrastructure design in Slovenia.
