16.8.2011 :: The Markovec Tunnel

The project documentation for PGD (design for obtaining Construction Permit) and PZI (detailed design for implementation) for the Markovec Tunnel on a high-speed road Koper-Izola was drawn up by engineers of IRGO Consulting d.o.o. in cooperation with ELEA IC d.o.o. and IBE d.d in joint venture.

The IRGO group takes part in the following works:

  • Detailed design for implementation (PZI) and implementing the engineering monitoring;
  • Implementation of proportional part of geomechanical monitoring;
  • Implementation of environmental monitoring (measuring the impact of the construction site on the environment).


The current course of works

Following the bankruptcy of Cestno podjetje Maribor (CPM), the works are carried on by the Austrian company Alpine Bau which was, according to the basic agreement, CPM’s partner in joint venture. Currently, the works fall behind for four months. The excavation works continue only from the western side (from Izola). 
 
Up until now approx. one third (1/3) of the tunnel has been excavated, namely:  
 
  • From the eastern direction:  - left tube:    316 m,

                                                   - right tube:  327 m.

  • From the western direction:  - left tube:   860 m,

                                             - right tube:  862 m.


In accordance with the project a primary lining has been implemented in the tunnel. The excavation works are to be concluded by the end of 2011. Currently, the works are four months behind the schedule. The tunnel should open for traffic in March 2013, although according to the latest news this date is questionable.
